Man Charged with 48 Driving Offences in Sydney's Southwest

A man has been charged with more than 40 driving offences in Sydney's south west.

At 9.30am on Tuesday (12 December 2023), emergency services were called to Georges River Road, Croydon Park, following reports of a single vehicle crash.

Officers from Burwood Highway Patrol attended and commenced investigations into the crash, including reviewing CCTV and a dashcam retrieved from the vehicle.

During an analysis of the dash cam, police allegedly found footage of more than 40 driving offences.

Police will allege in court the recorded offences occurred during November and December 2023 in several suburbs in Sydney's north and southwest, including Strathfield South, Bankstown, Moorebank, Miranda, Huntingwood, Ashfield, Campsie, Rhodes, Macquarie Park, Milperra, Liverpool, Haberfield, Hammondville, and Croydon Park.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a property at Greenacre yesterday (Wednesday 13 December 2023) and taken to Burwood Police Station.

He was charged with 48 offences including:

  • Contravene statutory rules re speed competitions (street racing)
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (six counts)
  • P1 driver exceed speed more than 45 km/h (six counts)
  • P1 driver exceed speed more than 30 km/h (five counts)
  • P1 driver exceed speed more than 20 km/h (two counts)
  • P1 driver exceed speed more than 10 km/h (four counts)
  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended (21 counts)
  • Operate vehicle so driving wheel/s undergo loss of traction
  • Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)
  • Not stop at stop line at yellow light

He has been granted conditional bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 9 January 2024.
