Man Charged With Domestic Violence, Drug Offenses

A man has been charged with alleged domestic violence and drug-related offences in the state's New England region.

On Monday 16 March 2026, a warrant was issued for the arrest of a 52-year-old man in relation to alleged domestic violence offences.

About 9.40am yesterday (Thursday 19 March 2026), officers attached to New England Police District attended a home on Kirkwood Street, Armidale, where they arrested a 52-year-old man in the rear yard of the property.

Police also allegedly located a cannabis plant growing in the backyard; a crime scene was established.

The man was taken to Armidale Police Station, where he was charged with the outstanding warrant for the offences of:

· Two counts of contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic),

· Two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic)

· Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV),

· Two counts of common assault (DV),

· Armed with intent to commit indictable offence, and

· Possess prohibited drug.

About 12.20pm the same day, police executed a crime scene warrant at the Kirkwood Street address, where they allegedly seized a 1.5-metre cannabis plant, three containers of dried cannabis leaf weighing 980 grams, and a home-made slingshot.

The 52-year-old man was further charged with:

· Cultivate prohibited plant less than or equal to small quantity,

· Possess prohibited plant less than or equal to small quantity,

· Possess prohibited drug, and

· Use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 yesterday (Thursday 19 March 2026), where he was formally refused bail to face Armidale Local Court on Monday 23 March 2026.
