A 38-year-old man has been charged with firearms and drug offences, including drug trafficking, following an incident in Launceston this week in which Tasmania Police officers were initially responding to a traffic crash.
Police were called to Invermay Road, Invermay, about 11.30am on Thursday (8 October) following reports a grey Mitsubishi Triton utility, driven by a man, had struck a parked car.
When police arrived, witnesses indicated the driver had walked to the grounds of a nearby business shortly after the crash and appeared to try and conceal a plastic bag.
Police will allege a search of the property identified a bag containing about 200 grams of methylamphetamine (ice).
In a subsequent search of the man's vehicle and his residence, police seized illicit drugs including methylamphetamine, Butanediol and two vials of testosterone.
The man has been detained to appear in court and is charged with:
• Trafficking in controlled substance (major offence)
• Unlawfully possess digital blueprint for manufacture of a firearm
• Summary drug and firearms offences.
Police urge anyone with information regarding illicit drugs and the possession and use of illegal firearms to contact them on 131 444. You can also report anonymously to Crime Stoppers in 1800 333 000 or www.crimestopperstas.com.au
