A man has been charged with firearms, weapons and drugs offences in the state's Far West.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District were called to Silver City Highway near Wentworth, about 3.30pm on Sunday 26 July 2026, after reports a man was behaving strangely on the roadway.
Police attended and spoke to a 31-year-old man, allegedly locating and seizing in his possession an amount of cannabis, a large knife, a short-bladed dagger, an imitation firearm, a baton, an electronic stun device, a torch device which police allege resembled an electronic stun device, and a bag with a security tag attached.
He was taken to Broken Hill Police Station where he was charged with nine offences,
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (five counts)
- Possess unauthorised pistol
- Possess prohibited drug
- Custody of knife in public place
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).
He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 4 yesterday (Monday 27 July 2026), where he was formally refused bail to reappear before Broken Hill Local Court today (Tuesday 28 July 2026).
