Man Charged with Murder Following Mid North Coast Crime Spree

Homicide detectives have charged a man with murder following a police operation on the state's Mid North Coast yesterday.

From 1.40am (Thursday 9 November 2023), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District responded to a series of shooting incidents along the Pacific Highway between Nabiac and Kundabung.

About 5.40am the same day, police were called to Fernbank Creed Road, just outside Port Macquarie, following reports of a deceased male.

On arrival, officers located a man suffering a fatal gunshot wound. He has been identified as 30-year-old Sam Dieter Liszczak.

About 10.30am, the vehicle wanted over the series of shooting incidents was located abandoned at Wayne Richards Park, Port Macquarie, where it was seized to undergo forensic examination.

A large-scale police operation was established by the Mid North Coast Police District – assisted by officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District, and several NSW Police specialist units, including PolAir, the Tactical Operations Unit, the Police Dog Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol, and other Northern Region resources – to locate those involved.

Officers attached to State Crime Command's Homicide Squad commenced an investigation into the deceased male, which police established was linked to the shooting spree.

About 3.15pm, two men – aged 26 and 32 – were arrested behind Geoffrey Debenham Street in Kempsey.

The 26-year-old man was taken to Kempsey Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of discharge firearm intend cause grievous bodily harm, and three counts of fire firearm in or near public place.

He was refused bail to appear at Kempsey Local Court today (Friday 10 November 2023).

The older man was taken to Kempsey Hospital for assessment under police guard.

On his release from hospital, he was also taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with seven offences, including murder and six firearm related offences.

He was refused bail to appear in Kempsey Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 11 November 2023).

Police will allege in court the men had travelled together from Victoria in the ute, before the older man fatally shot the 30-year-old after a falling out.
