Man Charged with Online Grooming Offences in Glebe

Detectives from State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad have charged a man following an investigation into online grooming in Sydney's Inner West under Strike Force Trawler.

Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by Sex Crimes Squad's Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.

Police will allege in court the man was talking to the father of two young children online, in a bid to procure the daughter for sexual activity.

Following subsequent inquiries, just after 7am today (Friday 28 July 2023), strike force detectives attended an address in Glebe where a 35-year-old man was arrested.

During a subsequent search of the address, officers located and seized a number of electronic devices relevant to their investigation.

The man was taken to Newtown Police Station, where he was charged with use carriage service transmit/publish/promote child abuse, five counts of contravene prohibition order and two counts of fail to comply with reporting obligations.

He was refused bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court today.

Inquiries under Strike Force Trawler continue.

Anyone with concerns about suspected child abuse or exploitation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
