Man charged with sexually touching and assaulting woman in Rozelle

A man has been charged after allegedly sexually touching and assaulting a woman in Sydney’s inner west last weekend, NSW Police say.

About 5.30pm on Saturday 1 December 2018, a 49-year-old woman was running along the Bay Run, near the Iron Cove Bridge on Victoria Road, Rozelle, when she was approached and allegedly touched inappropriately by a man.

When the woman confronted the man, he spoke to her, before allegedly pushing her in the face.

Another woman intervened, and the man left the area on foot.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 44-year-old man at a home in Lilyfield, about 8am yesterday (Thursday 6 December 2018).

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with sexually touch another person without consent and common assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court yesterday where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Central Local Court on Monday (10 December 2018).
