Man dies after Berwick hit-run

A 44-year-old Berwick man has died in hospital following a hit-run in Berwick early this morning.

Police have been told the man was found injured on the side of the Princes Highway, between Neill and Peel streets, about 12.15am.

It is understood a passenger in a ride-share vehicle noticed the man injured in the gutter, as he was being driven past the area, and raised the alarm.

The injured man is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and are appealing for information after it appears the man may have been hit by a black BMW sedan.

Investigators believe the car would have extensive damage to the passenger front wheel arch and well as passenger front lights.
