Man Dies After West Coast ATV Crash

Sadly, a man has died following a serious crash involving a side-by-side All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) at Macquarie Heads beach, Strahan, on Saturday morning.

The 81-year-old man from Tasmania's East Coast was a passenger in the vehicle when police believe it crashed and rolled on the beach, before landing at the water's edge.

The man was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with critical injuries but sadly, he died early this morning.

Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

A 36-year-old West Coast man who was driving the vehicle sustained serious injuries and remains in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a stable condition.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene on Saturday about 11.15am after members of the public discovered the ATV partially submerged in the water.

Investigations are continuing.
