Man dies in hospital after assault in Gosford

A man has died in hospital after being seriously assaulted outside a shopping centre at Gosford last week, NSW Police say.

About 8pm on Tuesday 6 November 2018, two men – aged 20 and 57 – had a verbal argument inside a shopping centre on Erina Street.

The younger man left the centre and waited outside.

As the older man left, it is alleged he was involved in a physical altercation with the same man.

The younger man is alleged to have assaulted the older man causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the footpath, knocking him unconscious.

Witnesses detained the younger man until the arrival of nearby officers from Brisbane Water Police District.

The injured man was treated by paramedics and taken to Gosford Hospital before being transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

On Thursday 8 November 2018, the 57-year-old man died in hospital.

At the time, the 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.

He remains before the court and investigations are continuing.
