Man dies in suspected shark attack at Forster

A man's died following a suspected shark attack on the state's Mid North Coast this morning.

About 11.20am (Tuesday 18 May 2021), emergency services were called to Tuncurry Beach, Forster, and found a man suffering critical injuries to his upper right thigh after being attacked while surfing.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was pulled from the water and officers from Manning Great Lakes Police District commenced CPR; however, he died at the scene.

Tuncurry Beach and Forster Main Beach are currently closed.

Police will be working with the Department of Primary Industries to identify the species responsible
