Man in critical condition after fire at Port Macquarie

A man is in a critical condition following a house fire on the state's mid north coast this morning.

About 12.35am (Saturday 16 July 2022), emergency services were called to a property on the Oxley Highway at Port Macquarie, following reports a detached granny flat was well alight.

Responding police and neighbours rescued a 55-year-old man from inside the home as it was engulfed in flames.

The fire spread to the nearby two-storey premises, with police entering the home and rescuing a further two people from inside.

Crews from Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blazes.

The man was treated at the scene for burns to a large portion of his body; he was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital to be airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in an induced coma.

An 82-year-old woman was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for assessment.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District have established a crime scene; detectives are working alongside fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
