Man received Father's Day wishes from 472 daughters

The family can afford to spend nearly Rs 4 lakh for a grand wedding for each girl

Mahesh Savani, an Ahmedabad-based businessman received the greetings from 472 daughters on the occasion of Father's Day on June 19.

47-year-old Savani was forced to perform the 'kanyadan' for his two nieces after his brother passed away 10 years ago. The incident left him thinking about the other girls who have lost their fathers.

Thereafter, he started supporting girls without fathers and helped them in getting married. He has organised several weddings since 2008, who hails from Raparda village in Bhavnagar.

Savani's father Vallabhbhai had come to the city nearly 40 years ago and began working as a diamond polisher. As time passed and he gained experience, Vallabhbhai became a unit owner. Now, the family can afford to spend nearly Rs 4 lakh for a grand wedding for each girl.

Other than gold and silver jewellery, these daughters also get utensils, clothes and electronic good to get on with their married lives. In 2016, Savani will help 216 girls in getting married. "It is challenging for a woman who has lost her husband to get her daughter married," he said.

Savani is not deviated towards any particular religion and treats everyone equally. The daughters who are able to get married with Savani's help only have positive things to say about him.

"Mahesh papa is more than a father to me. I wish every girl in the world gets a father like him," Naheda Banu who married Arif in 2014 said. She lost her father during childhood and Savani helped her through.
