Man sought after carjackings - Inner West

A police operation has concluded after two carjackings in Sydney's Inner West this morning.

Just before 6.30am today (Tuesday 16 March 2021), a Mazda 3 stopped at a carpark on City Road, Chippendale, when a man approached the female driver, demanding her car keys.

The man took the keys and drove off in the Mazda, last seen heading towards Parramatta Road.

The 33-year-old woman was not physically injured.

In a second incident, a Holden Captiva was stopped at the intersection of Parramatta Road and Dalhousie Street, Ashfield, about 6.40am, when a man approached the vehicle and punched the driver and stole the Holden before driving off, hitting three cars.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command attended, and the Holden was located at the intersection of Frederick Street and Parramatta Road.

The male and female occupants were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The Mazda has since been located abandoned on Kensington Road, Summer Hill. Both vehicles have been seized for forensic examination.

A police operation was conducted after the man was last seen in the vicinity of Knocklayde Street, Ashfield. He could not be located and is described as being aged in his 30s, about 180cm tall, wearing a grey hooded jumper and khaki pants.
