Man suffers critical head injuries; investigation underway at Griffith

An investigation has commenced after an elderly man was seriously assaulted in Griffith at the weekend.

About 6.40pm (Saturday 5 September 2020), an 80-year-old man was walking east along Yambil Street when he was confronted by a younger man.

The younger man assaulted the older man causing him to fall to the ground where the assault continued. A number of witnesses intervened, and the younger man ran away.

The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Griffith Base Hospital suffering a number of facial fractures. He has since been airlifted to Canberra Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are now searching for a man described as having a dark complexion, with dark hair that is cut in a distinctive style with short sides and thick on top.

At the time he was wearing a red flannelette shirt with tight jeans.
