Man under police guard after pursuit through Sydney's south-west

A man remains under police guard in hospital following a pursuit through Sydney's south-west this morning.

About 6.30am (Tuesday 8 June 2021), police patrolling the Bow Bowing area observed a white Toyota Hilux with allegedly stolen number plates.

Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command tracked the vehicle for about half an hour; with a pursuit commencing on Airds Road, Leumeah, before being terminated a short time later.

PolAir monitored the vehicle as it travelled across south-west Sydney toward Burwood.

About 8am, the Hilux crashed through a boom-gate at a shopping centre car park on Burwood Road, before the driver fled on foot.

Police will allege the driver of the Hilux then forced a man out of a delivery van, and drove away.

The 46-year-old man was arrested a short distance away and taken to Concord Hospital for observation where he remains under police guard.
