Detectives are currently at a property and a crime scene has been established following a fire at a home in Pascoe Vale this morning.
Emergency services were called to the Rhodes Parade unit following reports a man had smashed the window of a home about 4.50am.
Police then received reports there was a fire at the residence and that a seriously injured man was receiving medical treatment nearby.
The man, who is under police guard, has been taken to hospital with what is believed to be critical injuries.
A woman, believed known to the man, escaped without injury.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire, which is believed to be suspicious.
