Māori Weaving Workshop: Raranga Harakeke in Bayside

Bayside Council is hosting a Raranga Harakeke Wananga Māori weaving workshop at Rockdale Library. The cultural program will allow participants a hands-on introduction into the traditional Māori art of weaving using local flax, led by skilled teachers (Kaiako).

Attendees can learn about the whakapapa (ancestry) of the flax plant, how to harvest and prepare it, and create at least three woven flax flowers to take home.

This workshop is ideal for anyone aged 16 and over. All materials and tools will be provided, and attendees will be able to take their creations home.

This workshop is offered to Bayside library members. Joining Bayside Library is free and can be done online.
