Maranatha Gunyah Intergenerational Learning Centre community open day

Visitors will soon be able to walk through the brand new intergenerational learning space at Maranatha Gunyah, where the finishing touches are being made to prepare the centre for its future staff and students.

The childcare centre will feature state of the art electronic technology, including facial recognition and automated lighting making it a very high-tech facility.

The various rooms are being prepared with custom furnishings designed by STEP4 and will include a yarning centre and literacy and numeracy stations and outdoor play area.

Landscaping is being completed and includes a sandpit, play equipment and interactive garden spaces.

Maranatha Gunyah childcare director Dixie Robinson is looking forward to opening the doors to the community for the first time.

“We are very excited to be seeing this dream come to fruition,” Ms Robinson said. “This is the first purpose-built intergenerational centre of its kind and it will soon be operational.”

The centre will use the Early Years Learning Framework to  create a range of short and long-term goals for children.

Time spent between the generations will be optional and Ms Robinson envisages there will be singing, reading, craft, music, gardening and a host of other activities in a specially designed program.

Activities will be planned and based on the abilities of both generations while providing valid outcomes to both parties.

The community open day will be held at the centre on September 19.
