Margaret Lamerton Recognised for Service

Margaret Lamerton

At the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 24 October 2023, Cabonne Council recognised Margaret Lamerton, who has now retired, for her contribution and dedication to Molong in her role as Branch Librarian.

Margaret commenced working at the old Orange City Library in McNamara Lane in 1974, having a break from 1980 and returning to Central West Libraries in 1994.

With the decision to retire this month, that's 35 years of working in libraries and 19 of those years spent in Molong.

Margaret had been the Branch Librarian at Molong since 2004 at the Railway Station building up until its closure due to the flooding in November 2022, since that time she has continued working as a Library Assistant in Orange.

Margaret has provided the library members of Molong and surrounding areas a top-quality service, always endeavouring to meet their needs and requests.

Margaret warmly welcomed many of our visitors to Molong who called into the library, or to look around the Railway Station building, and was a wonderful advocate for our town.

During her employment, Margaret supported local opportunities for our community including book clubs, card making groups, children's reading time and author visits just to name a few.

Although the new Library is almost ready to be open, unfortunately, Margaret will not see the move back into the new space in the Community Centre but will be able to enjoy the space as a Library visitor.

All the best for your retirement Margaret and thank you for your service!
