Marine Rescue, Cape Cleveland

Five people and a dog were rescued from a sinking vessel around the Cape Cleveland area this morning, 4 December.

Around 6.30am, Queensland Government Air (QGAir) Rescue 521 was tasked to investigate a beacon activation off the coast of Ayr.

Upon arrival, the crew located a 120-foot sunken vessel and five people, as well as a blue heeler puppy, in the water.

Two 45-year-old women, a 28-year-old woman, a 50-year-old man and a 41-year-old man and the puppy were rescued by the crew around 7.30am.

They were transported back to Townsville in good health.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing.
