The Cook Labor Government has reached a key milestone in its efforts to boost housing supply in regional Western Australia, with the evaluation of the Karratha Expressions of Interest (EOI) process now complete.
Six respondents have been shortlisted following a competitive assessment process of potential residential and mixed-use developments.
The shortlisted respondents are Together Housing (WA), M/Group, Profix Australia, Perdaman Capital, City of Karratha, and Emirge Pty Ltd.
The Request for Proposal (RFP) stage is expected to be released on Tenders WA in mid-May, marking the next step towards delivering new residential and mixed-use development opportunities in Karratha.
Shortlisted respondents will now be invited to further develop their proposals, including detailed delivery, feasibility, and value for money considerations.
Following the RFP process, the Cook Labor Government may select one or more preferred proponents, with successful proponents expected to be appointed later in 2026.
This process forms part of the Cook Labor Government's broader commitment to unlock housing supply, with the Pilbara recognised as a strategic economic region supporting jobs, industry, and the long-term growth of the State.
As stated by Treasurer Rita Saffioti:
"Our government is doing everything we can to unlock supply and get more projects off the ground in regional WA.
"This is an important step in delivering new residential and mixed-use development opportunities in Karratha.
"By supporting more housing in the Pilbara, we are also supporting the workforce, industries, and communities that underpin Western Australia's economic strength."
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"Our government is making record investments to accelerate housing supply, including to unlock land and deliver more government and key worker housing in regional Western Australia.
"It's great to see progress on this EOI, which is expected to deliver more homes in Karratha in partnership with industry."
As stated by Pilbara Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"The Cook Labor Government knows how important good quality housing in the Pilbara is for the local community and for the economy.
"This announcement is good news for families, workers, and local businesses."
As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
"The Pilbara plays a vital role in our State's economy, and we want to make sure the people who live and work in the region have the housing options they need.
"By working with industry, we're helping unlock more residential and mixed-use development in Karratha to support a growing and vibrant community."
