Marking The National Apology In Victoria

Victorian survivors of institutional sexual abuse and their supporters are invited to come together at one of four locations around the state to witness the historic national apology in their local communities.

On the morning of Monday, 22 October 2018, a national apology will be delivered to all the victims and survivors of institutional child sex abuse at Parliament House in Canberra.

Survivors, families and friends in Victoria who aren’t travelling to Canberra are welcome to attend one of four local Apology viewing sites, which were announced today by Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos on behalf of the Andrews Labor Government.

Doors will open on the day at 10.15am, ahead of the live broadcast commencing at 11am.

The viewing locations include:

  • Melbourne, Members Dining Room, Gate 2, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Brunton Avenue, Jolimont 3002
  • Ballarat, Mercure Ballarat Hotel & Convention Centre, 613 Main Road, Ballarat 3350
  • Geelong, GMHBA Stadium, Geelong Football Club, Kardinia Park, Latrobe Terrace, Geelong 3220
  • Traralgon, Latrobe Performing Arts Centre, Grey Street, Traralgon 3844

Qualified counsellors and social workers will be available to offer support on the day.

Attendees are encouraged to register their attendance at one of the viewing events via email at national.apology at dhhs.vic.gov.au .
