Community input has guided East Gippsland Shire Council's decision to keep the Marlo Transfer Station open, with modified operating hours.

Council last week decided to keep the site operational for four days per week for three hours per day. Opening hours will be from 9am to 12pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The changes to operating times will take effect on February 1, 2020.

Mayor Cr Natalie O'Connell said the decision overturns a previous decision of Council to close the transfer station and the new operating hours reflect community feedback.

"The new days and operating hours reflect the survey feedback and community meeting sentiments as being the most convenient hours for the community to access the facility," Cr O'Connell said.

"Keeping the transfer station open for the local community to meet local needs was a priority for council.

"The revised operational hours at Marlo will improve the operational efficiency while providing a long-term sustainable and cost-effective waste service to the community."

An upgrade of the site is planned as part of this year's capital works program.

The Orbost Transfer Station will continue to be open seven days a week (Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 3pm).
