Maroochydore Library closed for well-deserved makeover

Contemporary and vibrant spaces for people to enjoy while reading newspapers or a favourite book are just some of the benefits of Sunshine Coast Council's upcoming Maroochydore Library refresh.

From Saturday, June 8 until Monday, July 1, Maroochydore Library will be closed to create revitalised spaces which meet changing community needs and library trends.

Division 8 Councillor Jason O'Pray said the new-look library would create an individual, unique and flexible environment for Maroochydore, designed specifically to complement the area and local community.

"The refresh will celebrate and capture Maroochydore's local landscape through the use of images and integrating surf and ocean themes into the colour palettes," Cr O'Pray said.

"Maroochydore Library is a massive part of the local community and I'm really pleased to say these improvements have been strongly supported by members and visitors to the library.

"The refresh will feature a new discovery layout, which we've successfully rolled out at other upgrades, like Coolum and Beerwah Libraries, and so far it's been a hit with the community.

"The discovery layout will enable better response to community needs and enhanced customer experiences, because library staff will have more time on the library floor to assist customers, helping them find information or their next read.

"I would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during the Maroochydore Library closure and I assure them it will be worth the wait."

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said it would be wonderful to provide a revitalised space for the much loved library.

"Upgrades generally include things like shelving and seating, but Maroochydore Library is also getting a lovely feature in the children's area thanks to the generosity of The Friends of Maroochydore Library," Cr McKay said.

"The children's area will feature special seating and reading nooks where children can curl up and really enjoy a good book.

"We've seen these nooks in the recent Beerwah Library upgrade and they have already proven very popular.

"The money for this special children's area was raised at book sales organised by the Friends of Maroochydore Library.

"We're also really pleased that the Friends were involved in helping to plan the overall look and feel for Maroochydore Library.

"Stay tuned for the announcement of our re-opening event, where we look forward to celebrating our new space with the community."

Maroochydore Library will be closed from Saturday, June 8 and will reopen on Monday, July 1.

During the closure, a Pop-up Library will be open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm in the Library Support Building, adjacent to the Maroochydore Library building.

Services will be limited. Customers will be able to pick up reservations, return items and borrow from a reduced collection. Access to daily newspapers and Wi-Fi will also be available.

However, there will be no Justice of the Peace services, Conversation Circles, Literacy Tutoring, Tech Help, Story time or Rhyme time during the closure.

Customers can continue to access all library services at nearby branches or via the eLibrary 24/7 on council's library website.
