The Chalcot Lodge Family and Community Centre's new look was unveiled this morning when the community joined Council to help celebrate the $782,000 makeover.
The redevelopment included the renewal of the existing Maternal and Child Health area to an open plan, multipurpose community room, with a new kitchen, amenities and storage area.
Other upgrades included a new community outdoor play area, renewal of the existing internal kindergarten space, upgrades to existing fittings, furnishings and equipment, a refresh of the façade and surrounding front landscape, with new signage also on the way.
Originally built in 1979, the recent upgrades have given the community centre a new lease on life, thanks to a $375,000 contribution from the State Government through the Growing Suburbs Fund, which complemented Council's investment of $407,000.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Amanda Stapledon said centres such as these are a vital asset to the community, particularly in areas such as Endeavour Hills where they are limited.
"By providing a dedicated community space for a diverse range of community and user groups, residents now have a place to meet, participate, socialise and connect for years to come," the Mayor said.
"The local community will now have far greater access to important programs including playgroups, as well as activities such as exercise classes and social and cultural groups.
"This redevelopment is an example of where the community and their changing needs are at the forefront of our planning now, and into the future."
Community facilities such as these also deliver on Council's commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of Casey residents and ensure they have access to the appropriate services and programs.
The new multipurpose room will be available for the community to hire, fostering the provision of more vital services for Casey.
Four Oaks Ward Councillor Rosalie Crestani, who officially opened the redevelopment, said she was proud to be a part of the reopening of this wonderful facility.
"Places like these are vital anchors, which help grow greater community connectedness and reduce social isolation," she said.
"I am proud to have been here with you today and thank those who worked tirelessly to make this happen."
