Mayor launches wheelchair tennis program

Tennis Centre Stanhope has launched its new wheelchair group tennis coaching program.

The coaching program, supported by Tennis Australia, was launched late last month and will run through until 18 December 2019.

Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM attended the official launch and said he was inspired by the athleticism and ability of the young tennis players.

"It's great to see these young kids out on the courts giving it their all for the sport they love.

"Council is proud Tennis Centre Stanhope is proud to provide the world-class facilities at Blacktown Tennis Centre Stanhope for our young aspiring athletes."

Also at the launch of the Wheelchair Tennis Program was seasoned Paralympian Ben Weekes who has enjoyed a stellar tennis career including competing at the Athens, Beijing, London and Rio Paralympics.

The Wheelchair Tennis Program will enable junior and adult wheelchair athletes to train at a state of the art tennis facility with professional coaching and ongoing support.

Junior classes will run every Tuesday from 5.15 pm with an adult class from 6.00 pm.
