Residents are being urged to drive to conditions and be aware of the effects of heavy rainfall as Council closes a number of local roads this morning.
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said Townsville had received significant rainfall across the local government area which had caused road closures and localised flooding.
"There are a number of road closures due to water over roads, so residents should adhere to road closure signs and be careful while driving.
There may be debris on roads, so be sure to pay attention while driving," Cr Dametto said.
"There are a number of roads closed across the local government area, with crews out and about assessing situations as things can change quite rapidly."
"From our conversations with The Bureau of Meteorology this morning, we expect this heavy rainfall to continue for the rest of the day and potentially into tomorrow morning, hopefully then easing into the weekend."
Councillor Dametto said a list of road closures was available on Council's Emergency Management and Disaster Dashboard.
"People need to be cautious if they're out on the roads especially with limited vision during heavy rainfall, we have all our crews on the ground close roads where possible, but as we all know with rain, conditions can change very quickly.
"So, it's important to obey road closure signs and drive to conditions.
"Please be mindful of where you park your vehicle, as some low-lying areas have experienced reports of vehicle inundation"
