MBS consultation for members and stakeholders

MBS consultation for members and stakeholders

The APS is undertaking a program of consultation to develop recommendations for a new Medicare Benefits Schedule model for the delivery of psychology services.

An APS MBS Expert Committee, including APS members, consumer advocates and a health economist, will lead the process. Its independent chair will be Mr Michael Gorton AM, a lawyer with more than 25 years' experience advising the health and medical sector.

A discussion paper will be distributed for member consultation on March 25, before a final position is determined and circulated among Government, stakeholders and the community.

APS CEO Frances Mirabelli said the process would help the APS to determine a new model for delivery of services that would recognise the important work of psychologists and ensure the community enjoyed vital access to mental health care. She urged members to participate in the process, ahead of the upcoming Federal election and Productivity Commission review, which could provide a catalyst for change.
