Confusion lingers as Term Two resumes
As thousands of Victorian children prepare for their first day back for Term Two, many parents are unsure if their children can attend school or not.
Questions remain around parents' jobs and if they are deemed essential, meaning their children are able to attend school and if not, how to juggle conflicting workloads at home.
While the Federal Government has deemed anyone with a job to be essential, Victorian students are being asked to learn from home unless their school deems their parent's job essential.
Schools are informing parents that students learning from home will not complete 6.5 hours of learning and are being told by the State Government that less is better.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Cindy McLeish:
"We are in unprecedented circumstances, but our children's education cannot be made up on the run and parents need clarity to have any confidence that their kids won't fall behind.
"Many Victorian mums and dads are juggling the demands of doing their own job with schooling their children at home and are unsure if their job is deemed essential or not.
"Some schools are encouraging parents to spend time with their children doing holiday activity like cooking, gardening, bike riding and craft.
"The State Government needs to step up and give Victorian parents the answers they need to have confidence in our education system."
