MEC Now More Inclusive And Accessible

MidCoast Council
The Manning Entertainment Centre (MEC) is now more inclusive and welcoming, following the completion of a suite of accessibility upgrades designed to improve access and comfort for all patrons.
The works mark a significant step forward in ensuring people of all abilities can fully participate in performances and events at the region's premier entertainment venue.
A key new feature is the introduction of a dedicated quiet room, providing a calm and supportive space for people with sensory sensitivities, parents with young children, breastfeeding mothers, or anyone who may need a break from the stimulation of a live event. The room is available to ticket holders during events ensuring it can be accessed when it is most needed.
Manager Libraries, Community and Cultural Services, Alex Mills, said the improvements reflect Council's commitment to creating inclusive cultural spaces for the whole community.
"These upgrades are about removing barriers and making sure everyone feels welcome and comfortable when they visit the Manning Entertainment Centre," he said.
"The new quiet room, along with the other accessibility improvements, means more people can enjoy live performances in a way that works for them."
Additional accessibility upgrades completed as part of the project include a portable wheelchair lift, new handrails in the main auditorium, improved internal and external pathways, and the creation of additional accessible car parking spaces. Together, these improvements enhance safety, mobility, and ease of access throughout the venue. Speak to our helpful box office team when booking your tickets about all accessibility needs.
The projects were proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Creative Capital Funding Program, which supports the development and renewal of cultural infrastructure across the state.
"These improvements will have a lasting impact, helping to ensure the MEC continues to be a vibrant, inclusive destination for arts and entertainment in our region," Mr Mills said.
