Medical volunteers prepare for California International Marathon on Sunday

UC Davis

More than 110 volunteers from across UC Davis Health will provide medical support to over 9,000 marathon runners at the California International Marathon (CIM) on Sunday. The medical center will also provide medical supplies throughout the course, which starts in Folsom and ends at the State Capitol in Sacramento. Medical volunteers will staff aid stations along the marathon route and a finish line medical tent at the Capitol.

UC Davis Children's Hospital is a proud race sponsor and the chief beneficiary of the funds raised by the CIM and the Sacramento Running Association, which hosts the event.

Katren Tyler, professor in Emergency Medicine, Brandee Waite, professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Brian Davis, volunteer clinical professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, are the co-medical directors of the race.

"It is always an honor to be providing medical care and assistance to all of the runners of the California International Marathon," said Tyler. "From the elite runners to those bringing up the back of the pack, everyone has taken a long and hard-won journey to cross the finish line."

Additional volunteers from Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Medical Reserve Corps, American Medical Response (AMR) and Folsom, Sacramento Metro and the City of Sacramento Fire Departments are also providing medical support for the event.

This will be the eighth year that UC Davis Health provides medical support for the CIM.
