MedicSA - Autumn 2024

Australian Medical Association

The Autumn edition of medicSA, the magazine of AMA(SA), is now available.

The advocacy of the AMA, in South Australia and across the country, has never been more important.

Locally, President Dr John Williams, CEO Nicole Sykes, the Board and Council are, with the support of members, directing their efforts to combat issues that threaten the future of medicine and how doctors can practise it. These issues include pharmacy prescribing of UTI treatments and other medications and additional forms of 'scope creep', and new interpretations of payroll tax.

At the same time, AMA's support for a training model that aims to attract medical students and junior doctors to, and retain them in, general practice, has been critical to introducing the 'single employer model' framework in one Local Health Network. In this issue, we showcase the model and how it is transforming health care in the Riverland region of South Australia. And we congratulate the winners of the 2023 AMA(SA) Student Medals and their peers, many of whom are now able to call themselves 'doctor' for the first time.

Please enjoy the issue, which you can read here.
