At the Teaching and Learning Unit, several educational developers work in different areas to support teachers and supervisors in their teaching. One of them is Helena Brodin, who contributes to creating the conditions for high-quality supervision of students who are doing work-based practice in healthcare.

What does being an educational developer mean to you, and what do you do in the group workplace-based teaching and learning?
I develop courses, teaching tools and projects that lead to pedagogical development for supervisors in work-based learning. For example, I teach stepping stone courses , which are courses in pedagogy for work-based learning supervisors, and I am involved in various projects in collaboration with the Stockholm region and other universities. I am incredibly proud of the Peer Learning Guide and the IPL (Interprofessional Learning) Guide , which are available to everyone on the KI website and have been developed with colleagues and supervisors at other universities. Everyone who meets KI students in learning situations should have a good foundation and know what to do pedagogically in their supervisory role. Supervisors often know a lot but do not always have the opportunity to discuss how supervision can be done, but they have that opportunity to discuss and learn from each other at our activities and workshops.
What will you work with this autumn?
I am looking forward to all the courses that run continuously and meeting all the participants from all healthcare professions who meet our students. I am a little nervous about some workshops where I want to try out new teaching methods I have not used before. These include how we follow up discussions and reflections in learning situations. I am also excited to work with feedback and the different roles that supervisors and students have in this.
How do you think educational development will change in the coming years?
Two hot topics in out unit right now are feedback and assessment, which we are working on extensively. Not least how AI will link into this and influence how we provide feedback and assess for and by learning. Challenging but also interesting to follow!
