A Melton mother, affectionately known as 'Mrs Fun', has won a staggering $660,000 in the TattsLotto draw, attributing her good fortune to the charm of the newsagency owner, whom she dubs 'Mr Lucky'.
The Melburnian was one of the eight national division one winners in the draw held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, claiming a total prize of $666,446.97.
The elated winner recounted her experience upon learning about her win when a lotto official called to confirm her newfound fortune.
“How exciting!” she gasped.
“I was with my husband, son, and daughter-in-law yesterday morning and I decided to check my TattsLotto ticket - I thought I’d have a heart attack!
“I told them the good news and they didn’t believe me. My husband kept saying, ‘I don’t believe you! I don’t believe you!’.
“Honestly, he still doesn’t really believe it. But he’s sitting next to me right now, and I’m sure the news will sink in soon!
“I couldn’t have done it without Mr Lucky, the owner at Melton Lotto & TSG. Every time I see him, I call him Mr Lucky and he calls me Mrs Fun!
“It’s the only newsagency I buy my tickets from, and I’ve always said he will give me the winning ticket. He’s so nice - a very special person.
“I gave him a call after I found out I had won and I said, ‘Mr Lucky, I won! I won!’. We couldn’t believe it.
“And you wouldn’t believe it. My lucky number is number eight, and every time the number eight comes up I know I’ve got a chance.
“We’re so happy.”
Mrs Fun plans to use her windfall to assist her son with his mortgage and upgrade the family's cars.
“This Christmas is going to be amazing,” she added, looking forward to the festive season with a newfound financial comfort.
The winning System 9 entry was purchased at Melton Lotto & TSG, located on High Street in Melton. Phong Thai, the owner, expressed his joy and disbelief at the news.
“We did it again! Another division one winning entry sold at Melton Lotto & TSG, and we’re absolutely over the moon for our division one winner,” he said.
The newsagency has a history of selling winning tickets, including a $1.7 million TattsLotto prize to a Melton man in late September.
