The Tasmanian Government is building a better Tasmania with the $45 million redevelopment of the Mersey Community Hospital's (MCH) Outpatients Clinics and Operating Theatres now complete.
Visiting the site today, Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the upgrades mark a major milestone for health services in North West Tasmania.
"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we're delivering on the things that matter to Tasmanians, like building world-class health facilities," the Premier said.
"The Mersey Community Hospital plays an essential role in delivering healthcare for communities in the North West and these upgrades will allow the hospital to deliver an increased range of services to meet community needs.
"The redevelopment has delivered a brand-new Elective Day Surgery Centre with capacity to deliver more surgical and endoscopy services – meaning more Tasmanians on the North West can receive their health care, sooner."
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the new, state-of-the-art Elective Day Surgery Centre is supported by increased capacity in the Outpatients Clinics.
"This includes 13 new consulting rooms, six specialist treatment rooms, five dedicated paediatric rooms, a waiting area, as well as a new audiology service and physiotherapy gym," Minister Petrusma said.
"The first of the new clinical spaces started operating in mid-2024, with the first patients visiting the new Outpatients Clinics in July, and the new operating theatres and endoscopy procedure rooms commenced in August 2024.
"Since then, building works have focused on internal refurbishment of areas that house supporting infrastructure for the theatres and outpatients, construction of the new Central Sterilising Supply Department including new equipment, and construction of new offices and staff areas.
"We're so proud to deliver this important upgrade, ensuring Tasmanians in our State's North West can access the right care, in the right place, at the right time."
