Miners Rest Faces Another Labor Games Promise Breach

Liberal Party Victoria
Miners Rest and Ballarat residents are paying the price of another Labor Commonwealth Games con as a promised new community sporting facility remains an empty paddock.

In 2023, Premier Jacinta Allan promised to deliver a new community sports facility in Miners Rest, including a competition grade oval, sports pavilion with carparking, amenities and changerooms.

Labor Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett, stated the facility would be built "by early 2025", yet three years after being initially announced, no works have been delivered or even commenced on the project.

Furthermore, the Allan Labor Government has covertly changed references to the project on Government websites raising serious doubts whether this project will ever be delivered.

Under Labor, net debt is growing by $1.7 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $192.6 billion by 2028-29.

Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "Labor's 2026 Commonwealth Games promise was a complete fraud and it is local communities like Miners Rest that continue to pay the price.

"Time and again, Labor promises one thing before an election and then fails to deliver after.

"Victoria cannot afford any more Labor election cons. Only way to clean up our state is by voting for a fresh start with my Liberals and Nationals team this November."

Shadow Minister for Sport, Brad Battin, said: "Growing communities deserve so much better than Labor broken promises.

"Labor Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett, has misled local residents and must explain why she has failed to deliver the community sports facility she promised."
