Mining tech in spotlight for new Women in Resources award

Women working in Australia's innovative world-leading resources sector have been invited to nominate for a new national award celebrating the achievements of women in technology and innovation.

The Maptek Women in Resources Technological Innovation award is a great addition to the hotly-contested annual Women in Resources National Awards presented by the MCA in partnership with state and territory mining chambers.

Research conducted for the MCA by EY found that 77 per cent of jobs in Australian mining will be enhanced or redesigned due to technology within the next five years.

New opportunities on offer in the modern Australian minerals industry include mechatronic engineer, virtual reality developer, artificial intelligence specialist and data analyst.

The awards celebrate the many and varied achievements of women in resources and demonstrate the diverse highly-paid, highly-skilled careers available to women in the sector.

As a leader in technical and technological innovation in the mining industry, Maptek proposed the Women in Resources Technological Innovation award to highlight the innovative solutions that are being developed and applied to improve safety, solve problems, boost efficiency and enhance productivity across the Australian resources sector.

Nominees will be asked to detail the impact of their work, how it could be further developed or deployed and the potential benefits for the company, the community and to the Australian economy.

Entries close on 13 August 2020. Finalists will be announced on 2 September and the winner will be announced during the Women in Resources National Awards online ceremony on 16 September 2020.
