The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the margins of the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister and the Secretary General discussed the rapidly evolving global security environment and reaffirmed the importance of a strong and united NATO.
The Minister and the Secretary General underscored their unwavering support for Ukraine as it pursues a just and lasting peace. They highlighted the continued collective resolve of Allies to deter Russian aggression and constrain Russia's ability to threaten Euro-Atlantic security. Minister Anand emphasized Canada's ongoing support to Ukraine under its G7 presidency, including through fostering increased and coordinated economic pressure on Russia.
Minister Anand and Secretary General Rutte also discussed the importance of Arctic security to Alliance security and the important contributions Arctic Allies make to securing the Arctic region, which strengthens NATO's northern and western flanks.
Minister Anand invited Secretary General Rutte to visit Canada's Arctic to experience the unique scale and challenges of the task and how Canada is doing the job.
