Today, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, met with the Administrator of the National Energy Administration of the People's Republic of China, Wang Hongzhi.
Both sides reaffirmed the value of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Energy Cooperation to support sustained dialogue, policy coordination and information exchange on the topics of energy transition, conventional energy, clean energy and technology, and civil nuclear energy and uranium resources. The MOU is a practical mechanism to provide strategic direction for future cooperation and facilitate collaboration between public and private stakeholders.
The Minister and the Administrator discussed grid-scale technologies and renewable power and the potential for Canada to learn from Chinese expertise and best practices as we continue our efforts to build out Canada's clean grid.
Minister Hodgson highlighted the liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in construction or operation on Canada's West Coast as a potential source of supply, emphasizing competitive advantages such as strong environmental and regulatory standards and proximity to Asian markets.
China's Presidency of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2026 offers further opportunities for both countries to support the clean energy transition, energy security and economic growth.
