Minister Kean talks 30 by 30

NSW Farmers will tonight be hosting the Hon Matthew Kean MP, Minister for Energy and Environment in another instalment of the "30 by 30" webinar series.

Moderated by climate and energy reporter at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Mike Foley, the webinar will explore the opportunities and barriers for the NSW agriculture sector, in the context of energy and environment, as it pursues $30 billion in farmgate output by 2030.

NSW Farmers President James Jackson said the webinar will delve into topics such as the burgeoning renewable energy sector, conservation and farming, and the on-farm diversification options offered by the emerging carbon and natural capital markets.

"Minister Kean has campaigned for greater action on climate change, arguing it's not only good for the environment but it is also good for our economy," Mr Jackson said.

Mr Jackson said the "30 by 30" target of the NSW agriculture sector is an ambitious but important goal to set in order to propel the conversation on the sustainability and future viability of one of Australia's most important sectors.

"The productivity of the NSW agriculture sector ranges between $12 billion and $15 billion annually," Mr Jackson said.

"Growing agriculture will not only stimulate the NSW economy as it recovers from the fiscal fallout of COVID-19; it will help pave the way toward a more food secure future."

"Forward thinking policy will be critical in ensuring agriculture can coexist harmoniously with environmental concerns as well as traditional and renewable energy generation."

The webinar will run from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday, 24 August. Please register using this link https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/3316282112362/WN_lLbTwgVPTs-L4mHuzCwwwQ
