Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, the Hon Kristy McBain MP, is looking forward to visiting the Indian Ocean Territories (IOT) next week.

The Minister will visit Cocos (Keeling) Islands from 27 to 28 February, before travelling to Christmas Island from 28 February to 3 March.

In her first trip to these islands since being appointed as Minister for Territories last year, she is looking forward to meeting residents and stakeholders across the community in person, as well as experiencing the striking environment of the region first-hand.

"The Indian Ocean Territories is renowned for its astonishing natural beauty and its distinct and diverse cultures, which is why I am so excited to experience one of Australia's greatest treasures for the first time," Minister McBain said.

"Over recent months, I have gained an understanding of both the challenges and opportunities for communities in the IOT.

"During my visit I look forward to strengthening relationships with the community and hearing from them directly, and to discussing our shared values and common goals for the future of the IOT.

"I will take the opportunity to see local infrastructure and facilities, along with visiting health services and the schools, to better understand how our government can support a stronger, more resilient and sustainable IOT region moving forward."

You can meet the Minister at the Cocos Club, West Island at 4:30pm - 5:15pm on 27 February and at Pondok, Home Island from 10:45-11:30am on 28 February. On Christmas Island, at the Poon Saan shops from 9:00am - 10:00am on 1 March.
