Yesterday, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, concluded a successful visit to Washington, D.C., where she reinforced the importance of the rules-based international order and ensuring international trade is inclusive, both of which will be crucial to a strong, sustainable, and inclusive global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
While in Washington, Minister Ng met with key leaders, including Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative and Senator Chuck Grassley. In both meetings, Minister Ng reiterated Canada's steadfast support for Ukraine along with allies, including the United States.
As part of these meetings, Minister Ng also reaffirmed Canada's commitment to defending the interests of Canadian workers and industry in working collaboratively with the United States on outstanding trade issues, and strengthening supply chains.
During her visit, Minister Ng delivered a keynote speech to The Wilson Centre on Canada's international trade priorities, highlighting the importance of international collaboration and ensuring that rules-based trade provides benefits, opportunities, and protections across society, including for under-represented communities.
Minister Ng also participated in a virtual discussion hosted by the Brookings Institution to reaffirm the strength of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) as the cornerstone of the North American trading relationship, benefiting people, workers, and businesses across all three countries.
