On January 27, 2021, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, spoke with Dan Tehan, Australia's Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.

Minister Ng congratulated Minister Tehan on his recent appointment to his position, and welcomed the opportunity to grow Canada and Australia's already strong relationship.

The ministers highlighted the importance of continued collaboration to advance a global economic recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic that benefits everyone, and discussed progress in global vaccine development and deployment.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to diversifying international trade markets and noted how free trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership help strengthen rules-based trade, providing businesses and workers in both countries with more opportunities in the global marketplace.

The ministers agreed to continue to work together to keep global supply chains open and to engage on shared priorities this year.
