Minns Labor: New Preschools Planned for Growth Areas

NSW Gov

Almost $16 million has been awarded to build five new preschools in Sydney and south-west NSW as the Minns Labor Government continues its work to improve early learning access for communities that need it.

The projects are part of a $60 million program, the first of its kind, to build 50 new and upgraded preschools co-located with 50 non-government schools, including both Independent and Catholic schools, improving access to quality early learning and the transition from early learning to kindergarten.

The first round of recipients of the Preschools on Non-Government School Site Grant Program are:

  • Amity College, Prestons
  • Bellfield College, Rossmore
  • Moama Anglican Grammar School, Moama
  • St Anthony's Catholic Primary School, Marsfield
  • St Christopher's Catholic Primary School, Holsworthy

The new early education and care services will provide more than 250 additional preschool places for NSW families.

Under the program, non-government schools can apply for funding for new builds and upgrades to existing preschools.

The program compliments the Minns Labor Government's historic program to build 100 public preschools by 2027. As the biggest expansion of public preschools in the state's history, the NSW Government's rollout of 100 more public preschools will provide access to high quality early learning for up to 9,000 children across the state.

New funding rounds for non-government schools are now open and will close March 2026.

Both programs are part of the Minns Labor Government's commitment to improve access to early learning and care across the state.

Acting Minister for Education and Early Learning Courtney Houssos said:

"Access to preschool close to home can be difficult for young families, and these grants will unlock more early learning places in growing areas.

"Working in partnership with the Catholic and Independent sectors, the Minns Labor Government is delivering expanded access to quality early learning.

"Alongside the 100 public preschools we are delivering by 2027, these new, high-quality preschools will provide more places for local families and support children to get the best start in life."

Principal of St Christopher's Catholic Primary School Linda O'Regan said:

"We're incredibly grateful to receive this funding under the NSW Government's Preschools on Non-Government School Sites Grant Program.

"This grant will enable us to build a purpose-built preschool facility right here on our school grounds, ensuring more local families have access to high-quality early learning in the years that matter most."
