NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Zhengzhou Municipal Government to develop protocols to get fresh NSW produce to China, faster.
The agreement, which includes founding businesses James Tyler, Henan Airport Group and Sydney Western Airport Group, will promote the development of international fresh food supply chain traceability protocols.
DPI Director General Scott Hansen welcomed a delegation from Zhengzhou to Orange to sign the MoC and discuss certification processes that would improve market access for NSW producers.
“NSW DPI is committed to building a strong primary industries sector, one which has a close relationship with trading partners globally,” he said.
“China is a major trading partner for primary producers, and the NSW Department of Primary Industries is looking to assist producers to build efficient and effective supply chains to meet increasing demand from Chinese consumers.
“The agreement we have signed today commits us to agree to work on protocols for fresh food supply chain traceability, and will help guide efforts to streamline cold chain distribution processes that will benefit NSW producers and Chinese consumers alike.”
DPI Director of International Engagement Ian Sanders said the Zhengzhou Xinzheng International airport was linked to road and rail freight, allowing the distribution of quality goods from Central China all around the country.
“As the Western Sydney Airport precinct continues to develop we are interested to explore opportunities to develop customs procedures which allow rapid movement of goods, especially fresh food, to create opportunities for producers here in NSW,” he said.
“There are opportunities for us to work with new, cutting edge technologies to allow automated customs clearance of goods, enabling rapid transport to customers and quick payment for producers.”
The delegation is being led by the vice-mayor of Zhengzhou, Mr Wang Yaohua and the Chief Commissioner of Zhengzhou Reform and Development Commission, who are both experienced logistic and agriculture experts.
