- Redevelopments completed at Montrose Park improve facilities for local tennis clubs
- WA Government's PlayOn WA initiative delivers $192,333 for facility upgrades
- Modern, accessible facilities to support women and girls' participation
Girrawheen's local sporting clubs and community members are set to benefit from upgraded facilities at Montrose Park, with the redevelopment of the Montrose Park Amenities Building now complete.
The project received $192,333 in funding through the Cook Government's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), delivering important upgrades that will help ensure the facility continues to support local sport and recreation for years to come.
Delivered as part of the Western Australian Government's PlayOn WA initiative, the redevelopment has transformed the ageing amenities building with modern, accessible and more functional facilities for local clubs and community members.
Upgrades include modern changerooms with individual lockable shower cubicles, compliant male and female toilets with ambulant cubicles and the addition of a universal access toilet with a baby change table.
The project also delivered new storage areas with individual lockable compartments for clubs, additional shelter and veranda space for players and spectators, and improved security features including a new roller door, security grills, doors and fittings.
Importantly, the upgraded changerooms and amenities will provide a more welcoming and accessible environment for women and girls, supporting increased participation in community sport.
Originally built in 1981, the previous amenities building was structurally sound but no longer met modern expectations for accessibility, comfort and functionality.
The upgraded facilities support a range of local users including the Montrose Park Tennis Club, Vietnamese RSL Tennis Club, Vietnamese Sunday Tennis Club and social tennis players, making the project an important investment in meeting the needs of the Girrawheen community.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Through initiatives like PlayOn WA, the Cook Government is continuing to invest in local sporting infrastructure that helps communities stay active and connected.
"These upgrades will make a real difference for the clubs and community members who use Montrose Park every week.
"Modern and accessible facilities help create more welcoming environments for everyone, and that is particularly important when it comes to encouraging more women and girls to participate in sport."
As stated by Girrawheen MLA Meredith Hammat:
"Montrose Park has long been an important place for people to come together through sport and recreation, and these improvements will ensure it continues to serve the community for many years to come.
"This investment means local players, volunteers and visitors now have modern, accessible facilities that reflect the strong and active sporting community we have here in Girrawheen."
