Montrose Recreation Reserve Playspace Renewal

Yarra Ranges Shire Council

Community members are encouraged to share their ideas to help shape the concept design for the Montrose Recreation Reserve Playspace renewal.

Council has opened community engagement on the renewal of the Montrose Recreation Reserve Playspace – the existing Montrose Community Playground, with the goal of having a re-designed playspace that continues to be a valued place for the community.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Jim Child, said staff had identified structural issues in the current playspace.

"A recent audit noted that timber elements at the playground are unlikely to be functional in the next 3-5 years, which is bittersweet – we know this playground is a beloved asset for our community, but this gives us the opportunity to embrace the community spirit from the original playspace and to now work with community to design something new for the space," Cr Child said.

"We know this playground has been really well loved for more than fifteen years, so we want to make sure what comes next puts community at the heart of the project once more.

"We want to hear from you – what do you love about the current playspace, and what would you like to see here in the future?

"All the community feedback we receive will help us create designs, which we will bring back to the community for comment before we get started with works.

"Our teams are also looking at what else we can do to improve the reserve as part of this renewal. We'll be seeking funding opportunities with other levels of Government as this project moves along, to help make it a reality."

Design opportunities identified so far in the project include;

  • New layout of the playspace

  • Accessible paths

  • New play equipment

  • New seating

  • Drinking tap

  • New planting

  • More nature play and landscaping

  • Community members are able to leave feedback until 7 December.
