Guidelines for the IVF and Fertility Support Initiative are now available, which will enable individuals to claim a rebate of up to $2,000 for eligible treatments.
Fertility challenges affect a number of Tasmanians, but the cost of fertility treatments such as In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) remains a major barrier for many individuals and families.
The 2026-27 Budget includes $5 million over two years for this new initiative, which will run from 1 July 2026 until 30 June 2028, or until funds are exhausted.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the rebate would support more Tasmanians on their journey to build the families they dream of.
"This Budget delivers a strong economy and a caring community," Minister Archer said.
"Growing a family is a unique and personal journey, and for some Tasmanians, fertility treatment plays an important part in that.
"While the Australian Government provides some financial support for these services, we are committed to further reducing the cost barrier for Tasmanians who wish to access fertility treatments.
"Through this program, we will support more Tasmanians to experience the joy of parenthood and help more families to grow."
Under the Guidelines, rebates can be accessed for a range of out-of-pocket costs, including IVF and other Assisted Reproductive Technology treatment cycles, including for fertility preservation.
The rebate is for Tasmanian residents accessing services provided in Tasmania by TasIVF or Fertility Tasmania and is intended to contribute to costs above Medicare or private health insurance rebates.
