The Allan Labor Government is making it easier for Gisborne residents to get to school, work and shops, thanks to dozens of new bus services on popular local routes.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams today announced 66 extra trips each week will be added to routes 73 and 74 from Sunday, 16 November - extending services until later in the afternoon on Saturdays and Sundays.
This will make it easier to enjoy a weekend night out in Gisborne, as well as providing more connections to Gisborne Central Shopping Centre, local schools, medical clinics, aged care centres and Gisborne Train Station.
These increased travel options, particularly on weekends, will enhance connections for residents who want to connect to a train service to visit the Melbourne CBD for evening events or a night at the footy and return to Gisborne on the same day.
These uplifts continue last year's upgrade to the Gisborne network, which saw the creation of a more flexible bus network for Gisborne with more services, longer hours and improved coverage of new estates and more schools.
The Labor Government continues to invest in better buses, with more than $892 million invested into new and upgraded bus services which has seen more than 24,000 additional bus services added to our network.
As stated by Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams
"We know how important reliable public transport is for local communities, and these extra bus services will make it easier for Gisborne locals to get out and about on weekends."
"Our regional fare cap has made it more affordable for Victorians to enjoy events across the state - and these extra services mean Gisborne locals can get there and back with ease."
As stated by Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas
"These extra services will be great for our local community and make it easier for Gisborne residents to get around our local area."
"Whether it is shopping at Gisborne Central, linking to our great local schools, or getting to important appointments, these extra bus services will be a big boost for Gisborne passengers."
